Clear Plastic Boxes

Clear plastic containers are excellent multi-purpose storage boxes. These plastic boxes are widely available and often have lids connected to hinges or that pop on and off. Of course one of their big advantages is that you can see in them to know what if anything they contain.

They are absolutely ideal for storing food. Restaurants use clear plastic food boxes to store and display their items. They keep the food safe and fresh, and free of dust, debris and from other food odors. We use them extensively at home. One of the biggest advantages we have, especially with 3 kids and lots of leftovers, is that you can see what is in each box without needing to pick it up or mess with it. And we end up with less old food in the fridge that needs to be thrown away.

We also use clear plastic boxes to organize kids toys, especially small pieces. Now getting the kids to pick up the small pieces, Legos, building blocks, or whatever, is tougher, but having clear boxes for toys makes it easier for them to figure out which box things go in. We must literally have 30 plus boxes of kids toys, which beats having all of them strewn about the floor!

I use them extensively in the cellar and in my radio shack for organizing nuts, bolts, etc. as well as small electronic parts of which I have a lot! And when it come to my fishing gear, including hooks, lures, sinkers, and lots of fly tying accessories and supplies, I find them nearly indispensable. Once again, the fact that they are clear makes finding things in them infinitely easier and faster.

One last thing we use clear plastic storage boxes for is clothes and other seasonal items storage in the attic. For example, the summer stuff is neatly packed away and stored out of the way, yet easily retrievable. Why just today I easily found and got out the swimwear,  because despite it being winter and snowing, the kids and wife went to a waterpark (and I went to work unfortunately instead!).

These boxes are also extensively used by many stores and restaurants for various types of storage. They are also often used to display merchandize, and also do a great job or organization.

Clear plastic shoe boxes are also great when you have lots of shoes like I do. They stack easily in the closet and you can see what shoes are in each of them without opening them.

I hate to sound silly, but clear plastic boxes can improve your life, especially if you have a family and endless amount of crap! A quick word on plastic and the environment. It's not good. Traditional plastics last 100 plus years; no one really knows how long, it may be much longer. I assure you the shore of any formerly pristine uninhabited island is littered with plastic trash. I know, I've seen many in my travels.  But the good news: much plastic both can be and is recycled, and newer types of plastic are more environmentally friendly, yet still far from perfect.
